Cops’ kids with special needs offered rehabilitation

DIG appointed as focal person to coordinate with four institutions

Punjab Police has reached an understanding with four institutions to jointly take measures for the rehabilitation of mentally and physically challenged children of its employees.

Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar signed MoUs with the Children's Hospital Lahore, Rising Sun Institute, Full Circle Institute and Hamza Foundation for the purpose.

DIG Establishment Dr Inam Waheed has been appointed as the focal person for coordination with the institutions.

Anwar asked the Hamza Foundation to prepare a two-week training course in basic sign language for police personnel, which will be started from Friday.

On the occasion, he also instructed the relevant authorities to write a letter for the approval of the issuance of driving licence to people suffering from hearing impairment.

He said that after the approval of institutions concerned and medical boards, the obstacles in issuing the license to the deaf persons who meet the devised standard should be removed.

The IG said detailed recommendations should be prepared through mutual consultation so that differently abled individuals might be provided every possible facility after approval from the government departments.

Speaking at a programme organised for the welfare of differently abled children of police employees, Professor Masood Sadiq from the Children's Hospital said the facility would offer all possible support to provide the best treatment facilities to the children of personnel suffering from any kind of mental and physical disabilities.
