As many as eight police officers were suspended and expelled from the Rawalpindi district for alleged negligence and providing substandard food to 5,000 personnel deployed for security of Pakistan Super League matches.
Sources said a notification was issued to transfer all the suspended officers from Rawalpindi to Attock.
In this regard, talking to The Express Tribune, a senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that there was a match between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday during which 5,000 personnel were deployed to ensure the security.
“There was a complaint about providing very poor quality food to the personnel in the mid-day meal,” he said. “The personnel secretly aired the footage of the poor quality food given to them on social media at which the Punjab IGP took notice and ordered an immediate investigation,” he added.
The police officer went on to add that during the investigation, it was found that the suppliers of food to the police personnel were negligent in providing quality food.
Based on the preliminary investigation and the footage on social media, CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani provided “chicken pulao” to the police personnel on Friday night and assured them that substandard food will not be served in the future, the police officer said.
Sources said Police Inspector Muhammad Saleem, Sub-Inspector Ijaz Rasheed, ASI Abdul Qadir, ASI Zahid Rasool, Head Constable Yasir Amar, Constable Mudassar Qurban, Constable Iftikhar Ahmed and Constable Muhammad Idris were among those who allegedly supplied the police force with substandard food.
