Five QAU students granted bail
The court of Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmad Raja approved the bail applications of five students of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) in connection with Monday’s clash with police outside the university hostel.
The accused students named Javed Ahmed, Basharat Ali, Muhammad Tayyab, Usman Zafar, and Fawad Khudlaq, submitted a bail application the other day and their attorneys Qaiser Imam and Ammar Altaf appeared before the court.
The counsels argued that while the accused were present at the scene they did not damage anything. They added that the students should be granted bail since there was no proof of their interference or attempt to murder.
The court ordered releasing the students on bail against the surety bonds of Rs10,000 each.
Earlier this week, a case was filed against the QAU students in the Secretariat Police Station for attempted murder and interference in discharge of public duty.
The QAU turned into a battleground as two student groups clashed, using batons and sticks, leaving several students injured.
The university administration failed to control the situation after the violence started with a minor conflict between the student groups.
Soon tempers flared up and the campus turned into a battleground as both groups beat each other with sticks, stones and other harmful tools.
The quarrel created a terrible situation on the campus for hours while no police were called by the university administration to handle the situation except for mobilising its internal security personnel, who failed to bring the situation under control.
In a notification, the university administration announced to shut the university for an indefinite period.
