RAWALPINDI:

A district and sessions court has accepted Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s exemption plea on medical grounds in a case registered against him by the Murree police for allegedly manhandling a law enforcement officer during his arrest.

The AML chief’s counsel Sardar Shehbaz appeared before additional sessions judge Irfan Naseem’s court.

The court heard the plea filed by the prosecution to suspend Sheikh Rashid’s bail. Furthermore, the hearing of the case registered by the Murree police against the AML leader was adjourned till March 18.

On Feb 8, an Islamabad court had handed over the former interior minister to the Murree police on one-day transit remand.

After hearing arguments, the court had approved Rashid’s one-day transit remand and directed police to present him before the relevant court on the next hearing. The first information report (FIR) was lodged against him at a police station in Murree for interfering in official affairs.
