US assures 'full cooperation' to meet K-P police capacity building requirements

A six-member delegation of US Mission and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) assured full cooperation to meet the capacity building requirements of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police.

The delegation called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan on Thursday and it was led by US Ambassador Donald A Blome.

The other members included Panfilo Marquez, US Consul General Peshawar Consulate, lori J Antolene, Director Nick Katsakis, Political Economic Section Chief and Ahsan Ali, Programme Coordinator INL.

In the meeting various activities launched by the INL regarding enhancing the manpower capabilities of the K-P police were discussed.

IGP Akhtar Hayat Khan informed the delegation about the training programme and scientific investigation provided to the police personnel, re-organization and upgradation of counter terrorism department to effectively combat terrorism and modern technology based policing.

5-year project inaugurated

US ambassador on Thursday also inaugarated US-Aid project ‘USAID Economic Recovery and Development Activity’ here at a local hotel in Peshawar.

Addressing on the occasion he said that the American people and US-Aid project in Pakistan has changed the lives of the poor people and the support will continue till Pakistan is on the pathway of economic development.

The ambassador said that the US-government funded ERDA is a five year initiative, adding that the aims of the project is to expand economic opportunities in K-P.

He added that the project will cover the merged areas too by modernizing the agriculture sector and promoting micro, small and medium enterprises.

He informed the audience that the activity will directly benefit more than 2,000 enterprises and 56,000 farming families across the province, adding that around 2.5 million flood victims were supported by the US government and its aid agencies.
