First digital census gets underway

Self-enumeration portal operational since Feb 20

The field activities of seventh population and housing census, which is the “first-ever digital census”, have begun in right earnest on Wednesday all over Pakistan.

Chief Census Commissioner Dr Naeem uz Zafar inaugurated the field activities here by marking first building structure in ‘House Listing App’. Meanwhile, the inauguration in all divisions was carried out by respective commissioners.

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) had already launched self-enumeration portal since February 20, 2023, which is happening for the first time in any South Asian country.

The chief census commissioner and PBS Spokesman Muhammad Sarwar Gondal briefed media after the inauguration about the digital census background and progress made till date, appreciating the involvement of all stakeholders.

The speakers appreciated the success of self-enumeration portal and hoped that same progress & dedication will be seen during the full roll-out of enumeration activity.

This census will geo tag all structures of Pakistan that will provide framework for economic census. 92,754 enumerators are fully motivated and engaged in door-to-door field activities, which were started early Wednesday all over the country.
