KARACHI:

The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has completed a year-long beautification project at Sea View in Karachi.

The project involved the plantation of 500 coconut trees, 150 palm trees, and 500,000 bougainvillaea and petunia plants along a 3.5-kilometre stretch from Khayaban Ittehad to Nishan-e-Pakistan.

In order to add to the beauty, hundreds of additional colourful flowers and plants were also planted in time for spring.

In this regard, CBC horticulture In-charge Hasan Anwar said that the project area has expanded from six acres to 35 acres.

He said that the palm trees planted along the coast are similar to those found on world-famous beaches.

Apart from making the beach beautiful and eye-catching, a special grass was also planted on the wider areas to prevent sand from the beach and pollution coming from roads that cause health problems.

The grass can tolerate salt water up to 5000 TDS, the CBC official said.

Additionally, 300 benches made from recycled waste have been installed for beach visitors.

The beautification project not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the beach but also addresses issues such as sand storms and traffic disruptions.
