JI mayor to end corruption: Naeem

He added that corruption in local bodies has reached its peak

Jamaat-e-Islami mayor will put an end to corruption in local bodies, said Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rahman.

"Under which law 45 per cent payment was made to a contractor who did only per cent development work on a road project along the Lyari Expressway," he said.

Corruption in local bodies has reached its peak, he said responding to a Daily Express news disclosing graft and illegal payments civic organisations.

Addressing a press conference at JI Karachi headquarters Idara Noore Haq, he said that whatever development work worth Rs12 billion was carried out has also been declared as poor. This loot of public resources is going on with the connivance of officers and contractors, Rehman said adding corruption must be stopped.

"Development funds are not pocket money from your father, these funds are people's tax money," he boomed at contractors and officers of the local government, he boomed.

Rehman said the media coverage of the corruption in the contract of construction of roads around Lyari Expressway costing more than Rs210 million shows that corruption in the local bodies has reached its peak.
