Thousands take part in Karachi marathon
More than 40,000 people braved the morning chill to run in the Fourth Commissioner Karachi Marathon on Sunday at Sea View Nishan-e-Pakistan.
The marathon proved to be significant as a large number of foreign nationals residing in Karachi participated in it and won prizes giving the 4th Commissioner Karachi Marathon an international status. CM’s Law Adviser Murtaza Wahab said that it was gratifying to see interest of citizens in the marathon.
He said people from every area of the city have participated in the run and their enthusiasm proves that the citizens of Karachi are peace-loving and want positive activities in the city.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Dr Sohail Rajput praised the Karachi administration for the successful organization of the marathon and said that the organization of the marathon is healthy and positive entertainment, which has highlighted the positive image of Karachi.
Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon said that the Karachi administration is making all possible efforts to promote positive activities to stabilize peace in the city.
Organizing a marathon is also a part of these efforts.
He said that Karachi is a peaceful city for peace-loving citizens and this marathon will highlight the positive face of Karachi abroad. He thanked the National Bank of Pakistan for its support in organising the marathon. National Bank of Pakistan President Rehmatullah Hasni said the bank has cooperated in organising the marathon for the betterment of the city.
The registration process continued from 7am to 9:45am, while Marathon started on time at 10:00 am. Despite the cold weather, the large number of participants showed great enthusiasm. Security arrangements were made on this occasion with the help of police and rangers.
Chest numbers were issued to the registered runners. Traffic police continued to control the system while volunteers were there to guide. Drinking water, juice, fruit, first aid, washroom facilities were provided at various places. A musical concert was organized before the colorful closing ceremony.
