SWABI:

A policeman was injured when unidentified miscreants hurled a hand grenade at a police station in Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday evening.

Police told The Express Tribune that unidentified bike riders threw a hand grenade at the Yar Hussain police station which exploded with a big bang.

“It landed inside the police station and injured one police guard who was deployed at the gate. The injured Constable Qaim was rushed to hospital for treatment,” said an official of police, adding that the constable received head and leg injuries but his condition is stable.

The attackers managed to escape after committing the crime.

Last month Kalu Khan police station in Swabi was attacked in the same manner by terrorists but there was no loss of life in the attack.

Police registered an FIR and opened investigation in the case.

It may be mentioned here that attacks on police have intensified in the past one year after the fall of Kabul to Taliban.

The withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan provided TTP with a golden opportunity to operate with complete impunity and without any danger as in the past US drones hunted them down frequently.

Police has been the primary target of attacks by TTP.

Police said that TTP terrorists are equipped with world-class thermal imaging sights, night vision goggles and infrared sights enabling them to stage deadly sniper attacks at night. The prime example is the attack at police DSP and his gunmen on the outskirts of Peshawar. Similarly, night vision devices were used in an attack at a police station in Lakki Marwat in which several policemen were killed.
