Appointment of women SHOs made compulsory

IG Punjab orders mandatory appointment of female officers in every district within 5 days

Inspector General Police Punjab Aamir Zulfiqar Khan has issued orders of appointing a female SHO in at least one police station in every district of the province within the next five days.

An order issued by the IGP titled, “Enhance the role of women police officers” to all the Punjab Police commanding officers read, “every district should post one female SHO by Friday in any police station that DPO thinks fit”.

It also read, “women's help desks had been established but are not active now. All urban police stations in big cities and districts should have a woman officer to assist and attend to the complaints of female victims and applicants”.

In compliance with orders, SI Mehwish Aslam has been appointed as the first female SHO in Hafizabad district at Lalelki Mandi police station.

Mehwish, a few months ago had arrested a rape suspect trying to flee away from court premises after the cancellation of his bail.

IGP Zulfiqar has appointed Additional IG Training to ensure the appointment of women SHOs in all the districts of the province and submit a report in due time.
