KARACHI:

Burglars stole $7,000, over 2,500 British pounds stashed in cash at the home of a businessman in Phase V Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The thieves also took away Pakistani currency, gold ornaments and other valuables from the apartment of Ayaz Rafi, brother of famous painter Riaz Rafi.

In days when US dollar currency notes are not even available at bank branches and exchange companies, the complaint of $7,000 theft sent the Darakhshan police station SHO and his team rushing to the crime scene.

SHO Darakhshan Shoaibur Rehman told The Express Tribune that on information to Madadgar 15, the police reached the spot. The Crime Scene Unit having specialised equipment and training in collecting fingerprints and evidence was also called in.

He further said that Ayaz's family told the police that they went to Riaz's home on Saturday and returned to their apartment on Monday, they found things scattered on which they immediately informed the police.

SHO Shoaib said that the accused entered the flat through the toilet embrasure in the absence of Ayaz's family and fled after committing the crime. Police have started investigating the incident in the light of the available evidence.
