WB-funded canals improvement project kicks off

World Bank Team Leader for the project hoped that SWAT will make the water supply to the tail-end areas possible

HYDRABAD:

The $310 million Sindh Water and Agriculture Transformation (SWAT) project, aimed at supporting existing reforms initiatives, modernisation of canals was inaugurated at the office of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The World Bank Team Leader for the project Greg Browder expressed hope that SWAT will make the water supply to the tail end areas possible besides helping the farmers learn and apply the advanced irrigation techniques in order to enhance the crop production.

The SIDA’s spokesman said it is still not know how much funding will be contributed by the Sindh government and what will be the amount of the WB’s loan. Managing Director of SIDA Preetam Das and other officials also spoke.
