RAWALPINDI:

The performance of the investigation teams of 34 police stations in the Rawalpindi district remained quite disappointing during the outgoing year of 2022.

However, the performance of the female investigation officers of the Women Police Station proved to be better than their male counterparts.

Sources said the IOs and the investigation teams of 34 police stations of the Rawalpindi district have completely failed to present final challans against suspects involved in heinous crimes, giving them the advantage in the courts of law.

The sources said that these proclaimed offenders managed to escape the clutches of law and got out of prison on bail.

According to court records and the district prosecutor’s office, 34 police stations in the Rawalpindi district registered a total of 35,331 cases so far this year.

Out of these, the final challans of only 9,631 cases could be submitted in the courts while the complete challans of 25,700 serious cases have not been submitted to date.

During the outgoing year, a total of 762, out of the total registered cases, were dismissed. The police could not arrest the accused in 471 cases, so their files were kept dormant.

According to the law, the police are bound to submit the challan within 14 days after the registration of the case but despite the passage of a year, the police could not present the final challans of these cases.

The final challans of the cases presented by the police are all cases of petty nature including alcoholism, begging, gambling, wandering, drug-dealing, fights, theft and inflation.

The final challans of serious cases of murder, attempted murder, gang rape, forced rape, kidnapping, robbery and car theft could not be submitted.

The investigation teams and officers flaunted their performance by submitting incomplete challans of these serious cases to throw dust in the eyes of their superiors.

However, the accused in these cases took full advantage of it and slipped away after securing bail while these serious cases are still pending in the courts due to incomplete challan.

During the outgoing year, Sadiqabad police station registered the highest number of 3,227 cases but only 662 final challans could be submitted in the court. New Town police station registered a total of 3,069 cases and submitted final challans for only 326 cases. The Airport police station registered a total of 1,993 cases and produced only 430 final challans.
