PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has reiterated his determination not to compromise on public order in the province.

He said that the provincial government is spending significant resources to make policing more efficient, for which financial resources are being sought from the Centre.

While presiding over an important meeting related to law and order, he said that all legal and constitutional means will be adopted for the purpose.

The overall law and order situation was reviewed in detail in the meeting. It was told that the K-P police and CTD are working under a comprehensive and effective strategy to establish peace and prevent mischief.

During the year 2022, effective success has been achieved in thwarting the ambitions of the extremists and 82 percent of the threats have been neutralised, the meeting was informed.

During the meeting, the CM clarified that the prevention of extremism and terrorism is primarily the responsibility of the federal government because the most effective institutions related to this issue are under the control of the federal government.

He, however, flayed the current federal government's “non-serious attitude”, terming it “worrisome”.

He further said that the federal government has used every “tactic” to make K-P financially unstable and has withheld the legitimate rights of the province, which is an undemocratic practice.

Khan said that due to the “unfair” behaviour of the federal government and non-payment of the rights of the province, the overall process of improving public order and welfare and development of the people has been affected.

He wondered how they would buy weapons and other equipment and how they would complete the ongoing development process.

He urged the Centre to refrain from acting lazily in granting the province its rights.

He added that allowances have been approved for the employees of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) while the budget required for the provision of other resources will also be provided on an emergency basis as the establishment of peace is the first priority of the government.

If peace prevails, the path to development and prosperity will be paved, he said.

Khan said that the police, security forces and people of the province made sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the region. “We value their sacrifices and will not let them go in vain,” he said.

Separately, Chief Minister Khan, while issuing the notification of a new tehsil named Tanawal in Mansehra district, presented the notification with his hand to the local representatives on Wednesday.

On this occasion, Adviser on Home Affairs Babar Saleem Swati congratulated the people of Mansehra district and the tehsil while expressing special gratitude to the CM.
