Govt grants IRSA financial autonomy

Indus River System Authority will now impose levies to generate its own income.

ISLAMABAD: The Government has decided to provide financial autonomy to the Indus River System Authority (IRSA), Express 24/7 reported on Thursday.

IRSA will now impose levies to generate its own income.

According to sources, Ministry for Water and Power approved proposals related to financial autonomy for IRSA. Chairman IRSA Rao Irshad has confirmed the approval.

Talking to the Express News, Chairman Irshad said that provinces will now have to pay a surcharge of 30 paisas per acre feet of water distribution.

He added that provinces will also pay a surcharge of 55 paisas per unit for hydro electricity.
