Fans are highly unimpressed by Rohit Shetty's long-awaited directorial, Cirkus, which released on December 23. The Ranveer Singh starrer, which promised its audience an experience full of entertainment and laughter, apparently failed to hit the mark-leaving the theatre in crickets.
Even with its picturesque locations, colourful outfits, and glamorous art direction, people on Twitter have dubbed the slapstick comedy a massive flop.
Taking to Twitter, a fan described the film as Shetty's "laziest" work to date. They said, "The great thing about movies like Heropanti 2, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Rashtra Kavach OM is that they are so awful that you actually burst into laughter in the intense moments! Cirkus on the other hand is lazy, hollow and absolutely painful to watch! Rohit Shetty's laziest film to date."

Another Tweep sarcastically commented on how Shetty needs to listen to his own advice. "In most of his recent interviews, Rohit Shetty seems to give profound lectures on why Bollywood movies are failing nowadays. It is hilariously ironic because he might need to watch those clips today," wrote the user.

Moving on, more disappointed fans chimed in on the conversation and criticised the film's scriptwriting for being cliched and outdated. "Slapping each other, making weird faces is still a comedy for Rohit Shetty in 2022," commented one user, while another celebrated the backlash received to the film. They said, "Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh's movie getting disaster response is a good sign. Finally, Bollywood is healing from below-average directors and actors."

In another Tweet, a fan urged filmmakers to stop taking their audience for granted. They stated, "The reviews of Cirkus are out and the unanimous view is that it's a terrible film and not entertaining at all. The simple reason is that Rohit Shetty has turned self-obsessive and arrogant. The writing was on the wall. This hasn't come as a surprise. Never take the audience for granted!"

Never take audience for granted!
Many users also utilised comedy to relay their sentiments about the film. "The best part of Cirkus was when it ended," a fan wrote, while another shared a picture of a poker-faced man watching a film, with a caption that read, "Me watching the 'comedy' film Cirkus throughout the 1st half."

A few people, however, chose to highlight the positives of the film and urged others to be less critical. "Saw Cirkus and really, it does make for a timepass film. Yes, the jokes are primarily in the second-half and some of the gags do make you laugh well. However, it's not as if the 1st half doesn't have its moments. We seem to have become way too critical and are thinking in extremes!" noted one user.

Another user pointed out how one bad film can’t make a dent in the lauded director and actor's career. They shared, "I'm appalled at how some people in the industry and trade are celebrating the failure of Cirkus. Out of 15 films directed by Rohit Shetty, 11 are HITS. Ranveer has also given many successful films. Cirkus is a blip. Both will bounce back."
