KARACHI:

The Judicial Magistrate South has rejected a request for the physical remand of Dania Shah, a widow of the late politician and televangelist Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, and instead sent her to jail on judicial remand.

Dania Shah was arrested by Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the complaint of Dr. Aamir's daughter for recording and posting on social media "obscene" video clips.

An FIA presented Dania Shah before the Judicial Magistrate South in Karachi City Court on Saturday. The Investigating Officer informed the court that the "obscene" videos featuring Dr. Aamir were shot Tariq Road area of Karachi.

"If the videos were filmed in the limits of Tariq Road police station, then she should be produced in the court there," the judge remarked.

The Investigating Officer said that these videos were watched by people all over Pakistan.

The court also has jurisdiction, he added.

The counsel for the accused argued that his client was innocent. In her statement before the court, Dania claimed that she did not make the videos go viral on the social media. She further claimed that she had been dragged into the case for the property of the late Dr. Aamir.

The counsel for the plaintiff submitted that the accused was part of a whole gang.

The court rejected the FIA's request for physical remand of Dania and instead sent her to jail on judicial remand.

The court remarked that the Investigating Officer should produce the accused before the concerned court for the verification of the [obscene] images and videos. If the plaintiff has watched these videos within district south jurisdiction, then it is not valid. The FIA can go to jail and investigate if they want.

The court ordered the Investigating Officer to present the challan at the next hearing.
