The newly appointed Karachi administrator has directed the city administration to construct 100 new public toilets in the metropolis — half of which would be public restrooms for women.
According to Express News, Karachi Administrator Dr Syed Saifur Rehman on Friday gave directives to the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to build public toilets near major markets, parks, and bus stops. He further directed to designate half of the restrooms only for women.
Rehman said that renowned architects were designing the restrooms and it was expected from the civil society as well as non-governmental organizations to cooperate with the municipal district administration which will be responsibile for providing space for the toilets.

Dr. Saifur Rehman, who was appointed as Karachi admnistrator earlier this month, further stated that a large number of citizens of Karachi suffer from diabetes and kidney diseases, due to which they need public toilets. Moreover, the population of Karachi is also increasing rapidly and catering to the needs of the citizens is one of the responsibilities of the KMC.
The city admnistrator further revealed that, according to the United Nations Development Programme index, Pakistan stands at 127th number out of 162 countries in terms of sanitation conditions.
