DUHS awards degrees to over 2,000 graduates

KARACHI:

The Vice-Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi said, “The world is changing. It’s no longer a mystery what space actually looks like. We can have immediate access to recent pictures of Mars. In the field of medicine, new mRNA vaccines have been developed. Genetic engineering has now become a topic of teatime chats. Blockchain and artificial intelligence are now widely understood.” Professor Qureshi made these comments during his address as the chief guest at the university’s 12th convocation.

He advised the students to uphold important principles, such as tolerance, respect, kindness, patience, honesty, and integrity.

The VC said that the Dow University has produced a batch of more than 2,000 doctors, dentists and other health professionals to serve the humanity.

He said that the DUHS is recognised among the top 600 universities of the world.

The VC mentioned that for the first time since the inception, the university has conferred honorary degree on eminent achievers from within the country and abroad and one of them is a Dow alumnus. He further said that the services and quality of education at Dow University have been appreciated at the national and international levels.

He urged the students that apart from being a good doctor, you also have to be good human beings.

A total of 2,082 degrees were awarded in which two international transplant surgeons received honorary degrees of Doctor of Science.

In addition, gold, silver and bronze medals were also given for securing the first, second and third positions.

Convocation Chairperson Committee Prof Saba Sohail and Secretary Dr Zeba Haq also spoke on the occasion. Registrar Dr Ashar Afaq administered the oath to the graduates.
