Netherlands offers assistance in flood management

Dutch expert to educate on causes of floods and their management

HYDRABAD:

Dutch water and environmental expert Ele Jan Saaf and a representative of the Netherlands Embassy in Pakistan, Yasir Farooqui, said that they want the people of Pakistan to know and eliminate the causes of floods and improve the capacity of Pakistan’s institutions.

They expressed these views during a meeting with the officers of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) in Hyderabad.

SIDA Managing Director Pritam Das said that the causes of floods include climate change, cutting of forests, unwise and unplanned growth of urban population.

SIDA General Manager Transition Ghulam Mustafa Ojan said that the authority is working for the development of cooperative irrigation system in which farmer organisations have been given the authority to manage the irrigation system. Along with this, farmers have been given decision-making authority by representing.
