Tacky and pathetic: Fans disappointed with Deepika, Shah Rukh Khan's 'Besharam Rang'

Twitter users felt the song was underwhelming and called out actors on vulgar choreography

Fans were elated to see Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone coming together for Pathaan after their 2014 offering, Happy New year. Consequently, when the first song, Besharam Rang, from the action-thriller released on Monday, it was trending in less than a few hours.

While it raked in views for the “infectious” chemistry between the superstars, it also irked many fans for the “subtle-porn” shots and vulgarity.

With the kind of legacy and stardom that Padukone and Khan hold, a fan was disappointed to see how “low Bollywood is stooping” and the “sheer garbage” that the song was.

“Deepika has done over 30 movies. SRK is the so-called superstar with a 3-decade-long career in Bollywood. If they still need to do this to sell their movie, it speaks a lot about the state of Bollywood and the sheer garbage they produce. Pathetic,” they wrote on Twitter.

Another fan shared that they’d rather see Khan use his money to create “meaningful stories” and not “sell a rip-off from Hollywood.” They wrote, “All I see is Deepika helping out her aging friend sell a film that's a ripoff from several Hollywood thrillers. It's sad seeing SRK keep making repetitive garbage when he has the money and power to create more meaningful stories.”

A tweep felt the whole music video was a waste of money. “How much did they pay Deepika? A billion dollars for this clownery? The song, steps, expressions everything is soo off. This doesn’t suit SRK. This isn’t the kind of stuff that gave him the name he’s got today,” read a tweet.

Others found the music video “uncomfortable” and “underwhelming.”

A fan even went on to call it an “ad shoot for a swimwear brand” given the visuals and direction. However, they loved Khan’s “smouldering” look with his man-bun, eight pecs and romantic aura on screen.

One even termed the duo as a cause of global warming.

Keeping how Deepika and Khan looked aside, most fans actually loved the party song while some thought there has been better Khan-Padukone bangers before.

Pathaan is helmed by Anand and it stars Padukone, Khan and John Abraham in the lead roles. Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, the action-thriller is scheduled to release in cinemas on January 25, 2023.
