Landhi police arrested an extortionist in an injured condition after an alleged encounter.
Area residents and the uncle of the alleged extortionist, however, staged a protest outside the Landhi police station, taking the stance that the man was detained and allegedly shot and injured inside the police station.
They demanded that, an impartial investigation of the incident should be conducted.
According to the Karachi police spokesperson, SHO Landhi Raja Tanveer arrested an extortionist in an injured condition during the encounter near Landhi 4 Eidgaah Ground. The accused is identified as Jan Sher. The police also recovered weapons, loaded magazines and Rs50,000 cash from his possession and he was taken to Jinnah Hospital for medical assistance.
The maternal uncle of Jan Sher said, my nephew called me but I was offering Zuhar prayers. After prayer I called him back but his phone was switched off. Meanwhile, my second nephew called and told me that police had arrested Jan Sher, on which I along with area residents went to the Landhi police station but the gate of the police station was closed and noises were coming from inside. When I spoke to SHO, he said that Jan Sher’s foot was injured and he was shifted to the hospital, to which I said that if there was any complaint against him, you should have called us to the police station, the uncle said, and alleged that my nephew has been injured in a fake encounter.
He rejected the allegation that his nephew is an extortionist. He gave further details that my nephew Sher Jan had a scrap partnership with a person named Shakeel and he wanted to remove him from the business. He used to call my nephew through different people to put pressure on him.
When SSP Korangi Sajid Saduzai was contacted in this regard, he said, “I do not know about this incident and whatever information I will receive, will be shared with you.”
