PESHAWAR:

The incidents of extortion have been on the rise in Peshawar as two more industrial units have been attacked with hand grenades at Hayatabad Industrial Estate.

Police told The Express Tribune that two factories came under grenade attacks on Tuesday night.

“These grenades exploded with a big bang causing widespread panic as well some nominal material damage,” said an official of police, adding that the owners of both the units were constantly receiving threatening calls from Afghan numbers.

“Both the attacks were carried out within 15 minutes of each other which means that one group is involved in these attacks who are demanding payment of money,” he said, adding that several vehicles had been damaged in the attack.

“A contingent of police was sent to the area along with BDU and investigation teams who inspected the sites of the attack and collected the CCTV footage,” he added. A search and rescue operation was also carried out at the estate but no one was arrested.
