RAWALPINDI:

Extraordinary security arrangements have been put in place for the upcoming Pakistan-England Test match to be played on Thursday, December 1 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, police sources said Monday.

The sources said, at least 3,000 policemen will be deployed outside the stadium while the internal security of the stadium will be provided by other law enforcement agencies.

The Double Road will be completely closed to traffic from December 1 to 5. Other places including the Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex, Allama Iqbal Park and food street will also be sealed.

A route will be established on Murree Road and Rawal Dam Road during the movement of Pakistan and England cricket teams to and from the stadium.

According to the police, the players of the England and Pakistan cricket teams completed the first day’s practice session under tight security while another practice session will be held today from 10 am to 1 pm.

Yesterday, strict security arrangements were made on the arrival of both teams at the stadium.

To ensure the security of the visiting team, a security route was arranged from a local hotel in Islamabad to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium due to which long queues of vehicles were formed on Murree Road, Express Highway, Faizabad, IJP Road and Rawal Dam Road up to 12 kilometres due to which the citizens faced severe problems.

The Rawalpindi administration kept the Double Road sealed from the beginning to the end of the practice session on the instructions of the security agencies and traffic going to and from Islamabad through the Double Road was diverted towards Syedpur Road, due to which the citizens suffered.
