Police have decided to contact the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to arrest a Swedish national of Pakistan origin suspected of killing a cop in Karachi earlier this week.

The decision came after suspect Khurram Nisar fled to Sweden after shooting policeman Abdul Rehman in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V area late Monday night.

DIG South Irfan Baloch said that “the police have initiated a legal process to arrest the suspect, who reportedly holds Swedish nationality”

Police sources revealed Tuesday night that the police have so far arrested the driver and a cousin of the suspect.

It is pertinent to note that Nisar, who is the son of former deputy commissioner Nisar Ahmad, took an international airline flight via Istanbul, soon after shooting the cop in Karachi and landed in Sweden.

The suspect used his Swedish passport to run away from Pakistan, the police sources confirmed.

Nisar’s cousin Amir who had been arrested by the police, shortly after the incident told the police that Nisar visited him in a hotel soon after committing the crime and told him that he is about to leave the country immediately.

“While me and my wife were escorting him to the airport, he revealed that he had been involved in a fight, which is why he is leaving the country”, he stated.

“As per our knowledge, he was flying to Dubai,” Amir added.

About the martyred cop, the police revealed that it was his first day of duty at the Khayaban-e-Badban. He had been recently transferred from Khayaban-e-Tanzeem to Khayan-e-Badban.

The police further said that they are looking for eyewitnesses of the incident, as there a few discrepancies in the statements of fellow cop Aminul Haque.

DIG South has appointed SSP South Asad Raza to head the investigation team and directed to arrest all those who have helped Nisar in fleeing the country.
