Former bureaucrat's son kills policeman in Karachi's DHA

Police have identified the accused with the help of CCTV footage, and raids are being conducted to arrest him

A police officer was shot dead on Monday night in Karachi's DHA locality by a suspect after the two reportedly engaged in a heated argument.

The suspect, reportedly the son of a former deputy commissioner, opened fire on the police officer after he attempted to foil an alleged attempt to abduct a woman, said police.

The police have identified the accused with the help of CCTV footage, and raids are being conducted to arrest him.

According to SSP South Asad Raza, Shaheen Force officers were patrolling the area and attempted to stop a vehicle on suspicion that a young woman's kidnapping was underway. He said that the incident took place around 11:45 pm near Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar at Street 26 of DHA Phase V.

In the CCTV footage, the bitter exchange between the accused and the police officer has surfaced, in which the accused can be seen taking out his weapon after disembarking from a black vehicle.

After this, the policeman is heard telling the suspect to get in the police vehicle and go to the police station. A bitter exchange follows after which the armed man opens fire at the constable.

The officer's body was taken to JPMC after the incident. According to the post-mortem report, the officer was hit by a single bullet of a 9 mm pistol from close range on the head which proved to be fatal. The police also found three bullet casings from the spot.

The deceased police officer, Abdur Rehman, was a resident of the City Railway Colony and the third among four brothers. His marriage date had been set for December this year.

With the help of the footage, the car number and suspect have been identified. Furthermore, the suspect's address was later also retrieved where the vehicle has been seized. However, the suspect is still being pursued by the police.

According to DIG South, the accused, Khurram Nisar, is a Swedish citizen and arrived Karachi only three weeks ago. His father, Nisar Ahmad, is a former deputy commissioner.

The police raided the bungalow of the accused and recovered other weapons. Drugs were also found in the room of the fugitive. The search for the vehicle in which the fugitive accused escaped is also ongoing. After the firing, he left his car at home and escaped in another car.
