Drivers rev up for Thal Desert rally

Over 100 register to participate in jeep race

Authorities have confirmed that the 7th Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) Thal Desert Rally will be held from 17-20 November 2022. More than 100 professional drivers will participate in the nine categories of the rally and a motorcycle race will also be organized on the occasion.

A ceremony unveiling the rally trophy was held at local hotel on Friday, where Secretary Tourism Punjab Asia Gull was the chief guest. Addressing the ceremony, she said that the TDCP is going to organise the Thal Desert Rally in Muzaffargarh and Layyah district, with the aim of promoting it as a winter tourist destination and promoting motorsports in Pakistan.

After the great popularity of the Cholistan Desert Rally, the Thal Desert Rally gained popularity in the surroundings of the Muzaffargarh and Layyah. Demand for a jeep rally in the unique landscape of the Thar Desert was high, with requests made by the people of Thar frequently.

The 7thThar Desert Rally will be held from November 17 to 20 in Muzaffargarh and Layyah districts. The desert stage is set for a sensational event that will highlight regional culture and colors. The event will also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region, where the rally drivers will showcase their skills in the three-day event.

Over 100 professional drivers, including women, will participate in 9 different categories of the rally, staged over 200 kilometers. The driver covering the distance in the fastest time will be declared the winner. Additionally, over 20 dirt bikes will participate in a motorcycle race.

During the jeep rally, there will be a cultural night in Chobara, featuring a fireworks display, while the prize distribution ceremony will be held at Faisal Stadium in Muzaffargarh. In each category, the first, second and third-place drivers will be given trophies and cash prizes.
