Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan of staging a "drama" over the gun attack on him last week.
Addressing a press conference, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief said that the former prime minister has surpassed Bollywood actors Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan in terms of acting.
“I don't understand his dramas, a JIT (joint investigation team) should be formed on Imran Khan’s lies,” he remarked.
Fazl said that a "lie" is being forged about the gun attack, adding that when he got the news of the attack, he condemned it, but with time, "things came to light".
“One shot, two shots, four shots or fragments; we have heard of bomb fragments, but bullet fragments we are hearing for the first time,” the PDM chief said.
He also questioned how a cancer hospital administered bone treatment.
He also said that for the first time, he learned that there was a jugular vein in the shin.
He added that there were "contradictions" in the statements of doctors.
He further said that the marchers reached Gujranwala from Lahore in five to six days but when Imran got hit, they reached Lahore within an hour.
Fazl said that Imran used to call everyone a thief but he himself turned out to be one.
He said that Pakistan was being pushed towards difficulties, and the nation was being subjected to anxiety by resorting to "accidents".
He added that “blind people” closed their eyes and accepted the PTI chief's claims.
“We have been left behind economically among all the countries in the region,” he remarked.
He went on to claim that the long march of the former ruling party had failed, therefore, the government should stand firm and not show any leniency.
“The ground here is very hot, your soles will not be able to withstand this heat,” he told the former premier.
He said that the marchers cannot enter Islamabad under any circumstances.
He also highlighted that he faced three suicide attacks, and “16 of our scholars were martyred”. He added that even though they were in trouble, they wanted peace in Pakistan, and every citizen should live under the law.
On the issue of Senator Azam Swati's video leak, he said that he condemned the incident, but would not say anything about it.
Regarding the alleged cipher, the PDM chief said that the former premier waived a “fake cipher” before the crowd. He called for a JIT to probe the matter and demanded that a case be filed for “misrepresenting a state secret”.
Commenting on the purported threat letter issued to slain journalist Arshad Sharif, he asked for a copy of it. He remarked that if an investigation is conducted on the matter, “you (PTI) will be trapped”.
Former premier Imran sustained bullet wounds to his leg after an armed attack on his container during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ in Wazirabad on Thursday.
One person died in the incident, while several members of the PTI chairman’s close circle, including Senator Faisal Javaid, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Ahmad Chattha and Imran Yousaf, were injured.
Imran was shifted to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH), Lahore. Doctors at the hospital had said that Imran was “stable and talking”.
Officials said that a citizen, who was later identified as Muazzam Nawaz, died in the armed attack, while 14 others, including some top leaders of the PTI were injured.
