JCP to meet today to consider appointment of next IHC CJ

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah has proposed the confirmation of three additional judges of the high court, namely Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, whose one-year job tenure ends on December 13.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has summoned a meeting of the commission on Tuesday to consider the appointment of a senior judge, Justice Aamer Farooq, as the new chief justice of the high court.

After the elevation of Justice Minallah to the Supreme Court (SC), two seats in the high court will stand vacant.

Parliamentary Committee of Judges’ Appointment is holding a meeting on November 3 to consider the JCP proposals regarding the elevation of three high court judges, including IHC CJ Minallah.

Sources told The Express Tribune that the federal government has submitted a list of three lawyers to appoint as amicus in presidential reference on Reko Diq project. These lawyers are Dr Farogh Naseem, Mahmood Mirza and Zahid F Ebrahim.

A five-judge larger bench of the apex court led by CJP Bandial will resume hearing of presidential reference on Tuesday.
