The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will have its own medical and dental college that will be functional by 2024.
The university currently has around 50 medical and dental colleges of Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir affiliated with it.
Addressing a meeting of faculty and administrative heads on Tuesday, UHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore said the institution had all the resources to start a medical and dental college of its own in a couple of years.
“A lecture theatre complex will be constructed at Jinnah campus for this purpose with an auditorium as its part,” he said, adding that it would be attached to teaching hospitals at Muridke, Kala Shah Kaku and Shahdara.
He said the college would be established as per international standards with an estimated cost of Rs2 billion to R2.5 billion.
Prof Rathore asked the faculty to start quality undergraduate programmes for financial autonomy.
Arrangements regarding the medical and dental college admission test (MDCAT) were also reviewed in the meeting.
