‘TLOMJ’ is the best thing to happen to Pakistan since ‘92 World Cup: Yasir Hussain
The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLOMJ) is not only receiving love from moviegoers from around the world but is also charming local celebrities who are grabbing at the first opportunity they can get to watch the cult remake.
After Adnan Siddiqui and Amar Khan’s mighty nod to Bilal Lashari’s magnum opus, Yasir Hussain and Fahad Mustafa have also joined the TLOMJ fanclub with the former calling it the “the best thing that happened to Pakistan” since the 1992 World Cup.
The Badshah Begum actor took to Instagram on Thursday to describe in detail how pleased he was with the experience of watching the film. “From Nasir Adeeb sahab’s writing to Bilal Lashari’s direction to Ammara Hikmat’s production, everything is great. The entire time you won’t feel like getting out of your seat or even checking your mobile phone. Babar Ali and Resham’s screen presence was unreal, Ali Azmat and Faris Shafi, best [supporting] cast,” read his note.
Hussain did not stop at the overall experience, he went on to compliment the main cast with the Natts first in line— Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Nayyer Ijaz and Shafqat Cheema for their performances. And while each character was great, Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt stood out for the Javed Iqbal star.
“Fear was accompanied by hatred and a special shoutout for Mahira Khan because only she can be the heroin[e] to Maula. Lastly comes Fawad Khan whom I loved as Maula. As a theatre actor, I can easily say that Maula was the most difficult character in the movie. Firstly, the character has so many shades and secondly, after Sultan Rahi Sahab it was almost impossible to accept anyone else as a Maula. But from today on Fawad Khan is our Maula Jatt, and that’s the winning point for the film,” he added.
One thing that stood out as a flaw for Hussain was the politics behind the distribution of The Legend of Maula Jatt. “This film does not need anyone’s support. Only the cinema-goers need to see the film,” he concluded with a wish that all cinemas screen the film soon.
Mustafa also expressed his amazement at the glory of the remake after finally getting to watch it. He asserted the film has set a high benchmark for the future of Pakistani cinema.
“Finally got to watch The Legend of Maula Jatt and it is truly what blockbusters are made of! Hats off to the entire cast and crew, brilliant performances and production all around which set a high benchmark for future film productions.”
TLOMJ was released worldwide on over 500 screens across 25 countries. On Tuesday, Maula Jatt was number one at the UAE Box Office, six in Canada and eight in Australia. In its opening weekend, the big-budget film collected Rs509 million (US$2.3 million).
