RMU, allied hospitals get Rs8 billion budget

The Punjab government has approved over Rs8 billion for the Rawalpindi Medical University and its allied hospitals for the financial year 2022-23 to meet its various expenditures.
Chairing the 13th syndicate meeting of the Rawalpindi Medical University, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid also approved a revised budget of over Rs6.58 billion for the Rawalpindi Medical University and its affiliated institutions for the year 2021-22.
The syndicate meeting also approved Rs100 million under the head of the medicine budget for all four allied hospitals of Rawalpindi.
The meeting also approved over Rs400 million for the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant.
It also approved the recruitment of 90 doctors and consultants for hospitals across the district and 17 assistant professors for medical universities.
The syndicate meeting also approved the purchase of elective medical equipment to upgrade treatment facilities in four allied hospitals. It also approved the expansion of wards and departments of the hospitals in the district.
In the new budget, over Rs3 billion have been allocated for the Holy family Hospital, over Rs2 billion for the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital and over Rs1 billion for the District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi.
In the budget, over Rs986 million have been allocated specifically for Rawalpindi Medical University. Funds of over Rs100 million have been allocated for the upgradation of labs of the four allied hospitals. In the new budget, over Rs1 billion have been allocated for the purchase of medicine for the four major hospitals.
The syndicate meeting also approved the recruitment of three professors, 31 assistant professors and 14 associate professors in the Rawalpindi Medical University.
The meeting also approved the recruitment of 21 male medical officers and 20 female medical officers for the Holy Family Hospital, 15 male medical officers and 14 women medical officers for the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital, seven surgeon registrars, eight consultants, three medical officers and two women medical officers for the District Headquarters Hospital.
