Student’s electrocution draws family’s ire

Family allege police strong-armed them into conducting post-mortem

LODHRAN:

Muhammad Mubeen, a class three student, was fatally electrocuted in his school. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Deputy Commissioner formed an inquiry committee chaired by the ADCR.

The committee will investigate the incident and prepare a report against those deemed negligent.

Lodhran Education CEO Mian Abdul Razak said that the school was sealed upon Mubeen’s death in Ramkali Girls Primary School. DC Babar Rahman Waraich formed a three-member inquiry committee, comprised of ADCG Malik Faraz Awan, MSDHQ Hospital Malik Mumtaz and SDO Building.

An inquiry was immediately started and the committee stated that strict legal action will be taken against any violators.

The student’s relatives staged a protest at the district hospital demanding the return of the deceased’s body. They also refused against the child’s post-mortem, but police are adamant on conducting the examination by force. The family said that the SHO is pressurising them to conduct the post-mortem threatening to detain them if legal action is not taken.

Muhammad Aslam, a relative of deceased, maintained that Mubeen’s death was accidental.

The relatives of the deceased requested the prime minister and Punjab chief minister to stop the post-mortem process, adding that they gave a statement to police that they don’t want an autopsy. However, the body was shifted to the post-mortem room.

The relatives said that the accident took place at 9 am, since then the body of Mubeen was kept in the hospital morgue.

Mubeen’s body was not given to his heirs even when night fell. The family said that they had arranged the child’s funeral prayers at 4pm, however, the body was not returned even around 7pm.

The family maintained that police paid no attention to their pleas but rather threatened them and forced them to sign various documents.
