71% road crashes involve motorbikes

Official data shows 158 cars, 96 rickshaws also hit in accidents

Motorcycles were involved in as many as 71 per cent of the 1,195 road accidents reported across Punjab on Sunday, revealed official data.

At least four people died, whereas 1,282 were injured in the road traffic crashes during the past 24 hours.

According to the data, 1,041 motorbikes, 96 rickshaws, 158 cars, 24 vans, 13 buses, 22 trucks and 106 other types of vehicles and carts were involved in the traffic accidents. At least 726 people were seriously injured in the accidents, who were shifted to hospitals, whereas 557 were treated at the sites for minor injuries.

Then data showed that 599 adult and 39 underage drivers,175 pedestrians and 513 passengers were among the victims of the road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 304 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 326 persons, followed by 84 in Multan with 104 victims and 82 in Faisalabad with 74 victims.

The victims of the traffic crashes including 1,033 males and 254 females, while 240 of them were under 18 years of age, 658 aged between 18 and 40 years and 399 above 40 years.
