KARACHI:

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has repaired a gas pipeline damaged during excavation for laying water piped in the Block 15 of Gulistan-eJauhar on Friday. However, residents complained of delay in response by the utility service.

The residents of Gulistan-eJauhar Block 15 were forced to take to the streets due to the negligence of gas company in repairing a faulty pipeline in their area. Taking notice of the protest, a team of SSGC rushed to the spot and immediately repaired the faulty pipeline.

According to residents, the gas line broke during the repair of a water supply line few days ago. Due to leakage, the smell of gas spread in the area and the supply to the houses was affected. Complaints were lodged with company’s helpline but to no avail, prompting the area residents to protest against SSGC on Friday.

As a result, a team of gas company reached the spot and corrected the fault to stop the gas leakage. According to the residents, the utility’s response to the gas leak complaint was disappointing. They have appealed to the higher authorities to take action against the SSGC staff for negligence.

According to residents, thousands of people lived in fear of explosion till the gas lead was fixed. “We would warn our friends and neighbours not to light a cigarette on the road, lest the whole neighbourhood blows up due to gas explosion,” a local told Daily Express.

For two days due to gas leakage, residents forbade each other not to light cigarettes or open flames in places that smelled of gas. According to the residents, Sui Southern Gas Company’s response to the gas leak complaint was disappointing. They have appealed to the higher authorities to take action against the concerned SSGC staff who showed negligence.
