KARACHI:

Last month's gun attack on a dental clinic owned by a Chinese Pakistani in a downtown neighbourhood was "a conspiracy to undermine relations between Pakistan and China," according a preliminary investigation report submitted in an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday.

The Sindhudesh People's Army, a newly formed militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack on the clininc near Empress Market in Saddar area that killed one person and injured two others.

The Investigating Officer submitted the preliminary report in the Anti-Terrorism Administrative Court in which the fatal gun attack was termed "a conspiracy to spoil Pakistan-China relations". It also mentioned that Sindhudesh People's Army claimed responsibly for the attack.

It added that the clinic owner, Dr Richad Hu, 50, and his wife Margaret Hu, 45, were injured, while their cashier Ronald Raymond Chao, 32, was killed in the shooting. The perpetrators wanted to damage the Pakistan-China relationship by scaring away Chinese citizens in order to stall Chinese projects in Pakistan.

The FIR was registered against two unidentified terrorists who allegedly carried out the attack. One of them stayed outside the clinic while the other walked inside posing as patient to carry out the attack, according to the report. Raids are being conducted to arrest the suspected terrorists, it said, adding that the two would be arrested soon and produced in the court of law.
