ISLAMABAD:

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Monday categorically stated that nobody was above the law and the supremacy of parliament should be honored at all costs.

The committee under the chairmanship of Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon also directed to inform all federal/provincial secretaries, ministries, divisions, and departments that disciplinary action would be taken against them as per the law if they do not attend the phone calls of parliamentarians.

The committee passed these recommendations on the complaint of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Noor Alam Khan.

The committee directed for necessary amendments in the defamation act/rules.

The committee proposed to increase fine on television channels committing defamation from one million to five million rupees and strengthen PEMRA and PTA.

The committee recommended strict disciplinary action if anyone transgresses or challenges the authority of parliament by avoiding the directions of the parliament/committees.
