Bandit killed, brother injured in ‘encounter’

A suspected mugger was killed and another injured in an alleged encounter with police in Ahsanabad, Allah Bakhsh Goth, on Tuesday. One police officer also received bullet injuries in the gunfight and was shifted to a private hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
The alleged encounter took place in the jurisdiction of the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police station. Local residents gathered at the site of the alleged shootout and vent their anger at the injured mugger. They started beating him up, but the police rescued him and shifted him to the hospital.
Sharing details of the incident, SSP East Abdul Rahim Shirazi told The Express Tribune that the police had set up a checkpoint in Ahsanabad, Allah Bakhsh Goth, for snap checking. They signalled two suspects riding a motorcycle to stop, but they instead opened fire on the police.
