KARACHI:

An inquiry has been ordered into alleged kidnapping for ransom and torture of a man by police in New Karachi. The revelation was made by Zubair Siddiqui, a day labourer from New Karachi, Sector 5/E, in a video statement.

In the video, Siddiqui says that he works as a stove repairer in Liaquatabad. On September 18, four men, one of them in police uniform, abducted him from his house.

First, they searched his house but found nothing. Then they took him to Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station, where purported policemen brutally tortured him. They demanded Rs50,000 from him and asked him to call his wife to come. When he refused, they tortured him more.

According to him, the purported policemen also took Rs8,000 to Rs10,000 from his wallet. Then he conveyed a message to his family to send him Rs10,000 which they did and the alleged kidnappers released him after receiving the bribe.

Siddiqui appealed for justice, saying that strict action should be taken against his tormentors and recovery of money looted from him.
