KARACHI:

Roads full of potholes are damaging the suspension and axles of vehicles which can lead to a life threatening accident, said a leader of Karachi's transporters, adding some ditches are so big that a bus could get misbalanced and overturn.

"People should know who will be responsible for any loss of life in case of such an accident," said Karachi Transport Ittehad President Irshad Bukhari chairing a meeting of the transporters' alliance.

He said that the city's roads were ruined in recent rains. Even the main highways have deep potholes. Roads of suburban areas are still inundated with ditches and craters hidden in muddy water which causes serious damage to the vehicles plying on these roads.

There is a danger of overturning of vehicles plying on damaged roads. "We demand of Commissioner Karachi, local bodies department and officers concerned to repair the roads in order to avoid any mishap."

The members who participated in the meeting told about the excessive challans of the traffic police and the actions against public transport that despite the completion of the documents, still they demand bribes from the public transporters.
