RAWALPINDI:

Nanbais in the garrison city have announced to further increase the price of Roti and Naan (bread) if the government did not reduce the prices of wheat flour and tariff of natural gas and electricity for commercial consumers.

The Nanbais association threatened to go on protest from September 14 if the government does not increase the price of roti and naan

The Nanbais Association has demanded of the authorities to issue new rates of roti till, otherwise a protest would be staged on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The Nanbais said that prices of fine flour and refined wheat flour rates have increased by Rs1,000 due to the shortage of wheat in the open market. The association said that the price of gas cylinders has risen from Rs11,300 to Rs15,000.

The Nanbais have demanded to raise the price of roti, naan and paratha by Rs5 each.

They also announced a protest sit-in at Kacheri Chowk on Wednesday. They said that the market price for an 80 kg sack of red flour has jumped from Rs1,850 to Rs6,800, while the price of a sack of flour and refined white flour has jumped from Rs7,100 to Rs8,300.

Pakistan Nanbai Association Central President Shafiq Qureshi said that the city is already experiencing a gas shortage. As a result, he said, a gas cylinder of 43 kg was now available for Rs15,000.

“We have sent three requisitions to the deputy commissioner to hold an urgent price control committee meeting to fix the new price of Naan and roti, but the meeting has not yet been convened. On September 14, we will stage a demonstration at Kacheri Chowk, which will be joined attended by Tandoor owners and employees from across the district,” he said adding that “If the cylinder gas costs remain unchanged, we will increase the prices of roti, naan, and paratha prices in the upcoming week”.
