Karachi in grip of hot weather

The feel like temperature was even higher than the actual temperature

Sea breeze remains suspended while hot desert winds from Balochistan continued to flow in the city causing Karachi to experience extreme hot day.

A higher than average temperature was recorded for September while gusts of hot wind continued during the daytime hours, with maximum mercury hitting 40.5 degrees Celsius at its peak. The feel like temperature was even higher than the actual temperature.

Saturday was the hottest day recorded in the city during September. While sea breezes remain suspended, the hot desert north-westerly winds of Balochistan are blown hard most of the time.

According to Metrological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius against the normal average temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius for September. The highest temperature recorded in September was 42.7 degrees Celsius on 20 September 2015.

Due to the intense heat throughout the day, a series of light and medium rain and drizzle took place in some places in the suburbs of the city, including in Gulshane Hadeed, Gulistane Jauhar, Orangi Town, North Karachi, Surjani Town and New Karachi Industrial Area.

According to Chief Meteorologist Karachi Sardar Sarfraz, the intensity of heat may persist for the next several days. He says that low pressure is present over Rajasthan due to which rain is expected in various districts of rural Sindh.
