Govt to recruit 664 visually impaired persons

Hiring will be conducted on 3% official quota

The government has finally decided to recruit visually impaired persons on daily wages in different public departments.

Following protests for consecutive three days in front of Punjab Chief Minister’s office and residence, the government has finally decided to recruit 664 visually impaired persons on daily wages in different public departments.

The decision is made during a meeting of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Legislative Affairs, which was held under the chair of Punjab Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Cooperatives and Environmental Protection Muhammad Basharat Raja on Wednesday.

Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayoun, Minister for Communications and Works Ali Afzal Sahi, Minister for Law Shahzad Khurram Virk and secretaries of the concerned departments attended the meeting.

Social Welfare and Baitul Maal Secretary briefed meeting participants about vacant posts in various government departments. The meeting approved recruitment of visually impaired persons on daily wages and decided to ensure recruitment of special persons against 3% official quota.

Committee Chairman Muhammad Basharat Raja expressed his displeasure over slow pace of recruitment of special persons and directed officials concerned to speed up the process as per instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. “If special people want to earn their livelihood with their own hands, we will strengthen them,” resolved the minister.

“The Punjab government was making a long-term plan for the special persons to make them skilled at early age so that they could get job opportunities,” said Raja.
