LAHORE:

Defence and Martyrs’ Day was observed across the country on Tuesday, to pay homage to the country’s soldiers with renewed commitment to defend the motherland against all threats.

Special prayers were offered for martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield and for peace and prosperity in the country. Prayers were also held for the independence of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Various ceremonies were held at army bases, naval establishments, airbases and public and private institutions nationwide. Floral wreath-laying ceremonies were also held at the monuments of recipients of the Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest gallantry award.

Defence and Matryrs’ Day is observed every year on September 6th in remembrance of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, when Indian forces crossed the international border and launched an attack on Pakistan. However, Pakistan’s Armed Forces managed to foil the Indian attack with courage and resolve.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army, adding that Defense and Martyrs’ Day is a unique chapter in the history of Pakistan.
