Shaheen Force to be deployed in sensitive areas: Odho
Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has said that Shaheen Force will be deployed in different areas of the city from today to curb street crimes. The force will be deployed in areas where street crime are on the rise. He said that, it will be a motorcycle-riding force.
He said that mobile phone snatchings are major problems in the city. The crime is not only causing mental troture to the ordinary citizens but it is also a challenge for the police department.
He mentioned, 2,500 mobile phones on an average are snatched in the city every month and sometimes this number rises to 4,000.
Talking to The Express Tribune in his office, he said that
crime rate in the first week of September has increased but pro-active policing has been started to mitigate this menace.
Odho said that in the last eight months of this year, the police have seized more than 4,000 illegal weapons and the suspects involved in the trafficking of illegal weapons have been arrested and 27 street criminals are produced before the court on a daily basis.
He added that 24 per cent decrease in house robbery has been noted as compared to last year. A lot of things have improved.
He added that steps have been taken to increase patrolling and Shaheen Force will be formally launched from Wednesday. This will be a motorbike riding force with a team of two policemen on each motorbike and this force will work in the areas where more incidents of street crime are reported. This force will be mobilised to suppress the accused and this force will be of great help in reducing crime rate in the city.
He said that the vehicle stealing incidents have been reduced to a great extent in the city. Most of motorcycle thefts occur from parking areas.
He said that in most of the cases, the thefts are being reported due to citizen's negligence.
He said that in a few days, graph of street crime will come down under an effective strategy.
