Nation urged to face challenge with patience, resilience

Rehabilitation work to start in 6 weeks

Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday said that living nations face difficult situations with patience and resiliance.

"The destruction caused by floods and rains is a big challenge for the Sindh government. Efforts are being made to start the rehabilitation work in six weeks," the Sindh government spokesman said.

In the current situation, the World Bank should waive Pakistan's debt. Imran Khan has nothing to do with the people of Pakistan, the administrator expressed these views while addressing a news conference in the Sindh Assembly Committee Room here.

Wahab said that in the last two months, the rain situation in Sindh has been a challenge. Eight places of the country suffered highest rainfall including Naushero Feroze.

He said that there were record rains in many areas, adding that drainage of water became a challenge.

He said that the water coming into the Indus River from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was also a challenge because of this water, the capacity of the river to take water is affected.

Wahab said that another challenge is the water coming from the mountains of Balochistan.

He said that PPP leadership was on the ground but their work was not visible to the blind.

Wahab said that 297,000 cusecs water flowed from Gudu and 400,000 from Sukkur while 600,000 is flowing from Kotri, which means that floods induced by rains were flowing down to Sindh.

The administrator said that the provincial government was still able to save Dadu and Juhi. "I pay tribute to all the officers who have done a good job in difficult times," he added.

He said that 140,000 tents have been distributed and 21,000 more will be given. Moreover, he said that 180,000 ration bags have been distributed so far.

He lauded the efforts of the armed forces of Pakistan for flood relief and helping people move to safer places.

The administrator also came down hard on former prime minister Imran Khan and said that he came to Sukkur only for photo session. "The people of Sukkur asked why is he coming after a month," he added.

In response to a question, Wahab said, "we will like the World Bank to waive its loan due to the current situation."
