Trauma centre to be built on Charki Road

Facility aims at tending to road accidents

RAWALPINDI:

A state-of-the-art trauma centre will be constructed on Charki Road, Rawalpindi where citizens will have free treatment facilities.

An emergency centre and a modern dialysis facility will also be available at the facility. The project is likely to cost around Rs1.55 billion and will be completed within one and a half years.

Sources said that a local elderly named Chaudhry Allah Daad has gifted 60 Kanals of land to the government for construction of the centre. The establishment of an emergency centre would facilitate the public in case of accidents on the motorway and GT Road. Immediate medical assistance would be available nearby which will help save a large number of lives.

The PC1 of this project is almost ready and is expected to begin next month, said the sources, adding that it will provide maternal and child treatment along with the availability of labour rooms. It will consist of five operation theatres, a modern laboratory, an X-ray and scanning facility along with a dental unit. Moreover, an entire floor will be dedicated to dialysis centres in which at least 20 dialysis could be performed at a time.

Upgradation of BHU

Meanwhile, 15% of the work on the upgradation of the Basic Health Unit (BHU) Kauntrila, Tehsil Gujjar Khan, into a Rural Health Center (RHC) has been completed.

Finance and Planning Coordinator District Health Authority Muhammad Zohaib said that the divisional development working party had approved the upgradation of the project in April 2022, which would be completed in 18 months at the cost of around Rs149 million.

Zohaib said that about Rs35 million had been spent so far on the construction of this 20-bed health facility while the remaining work would hopefully be completed by September 2023. He added that the provision of adequate health services, especially for mother and child health care to the people of the rural areas, was the top priority of the Punjab government.
