Political parties should give priority to help people: Sharjeel

Says we can do politics later if there are people in the country

HYDRABAD:

Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit and Focal Person for Rain Emergency in Hyderabad, Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the ongoing devastation of the monsoon rains has hit the entire country. "All political parties should sit together and work for the welfare of displaced people."

Addressing a press conference he said, "It is the need of the hour that we set aside our political differences and work together for the flood affected people," he said, adding, "We can do politics only if there are people in our county."

Sharjeel said that the next few days would be more difficult as a massive flood was coming from the northern parts of the country.

Sharjeel informed the media that 1,766 flood relief camps have been established throughout Sindh where 485,759 people have been accommodated. He further said that the PDMA had provided 89,815 tents, 30,710 tarpaulins and 35,424 ration bags while NDMA had distributed 7,443 tents 8,900 tarpaulins and 4,780 ration bags to the rain-affected people.

The minister said that each affected family would be given Rs25,000 cash as relief fund under Benazir Income Support Programme, which may not be a compensation for their losses but it could help them in a small way.

Meanwhile, the provincial minister visited various flood relief camps in Hyderabad rural taluka and met the rain affected people.

He visited relief camps in village Hyder Shah Abri, Sawan Khan Gopang, Sukhyo Dahri, Haji Ali Nawaz Gopang.

The minister also visited the tent city established at Tando Jam Agriculture University. Assistant Commissioner Rural Sirhan Abro gave a briefing to the provincial minister.

Later,Talking to the media, the provincial minister said that 64 relief camps have been established in Hyderabad.
