Farmer drowns in fast-flowing river

Stray dogs bite women, children in Haripur suburbs

HARIPUR:

A 55-year-old farmer drowned while crossing a fast-flowing river in Haripur on Friday.

Police said that the deceased named Mushtaq was crossing the river with his friends when his hand slipped and he was swept away by the flowing river.

The body was pulled out of the water by the Rescue 1122 workers and shifted to the Haripur Trauma Center after one hour of a search operation.

Although darkness made the search operation difficult, his body was found at a distance of one kilometer. The body was shifted to the hospital for medico-legal formalities, and later on, handed over to his family.

Moreover, stray dogs bit eight people, including children and women, in the suburbs of the city.

Taking notice of the serious problems faced by the public due to the increasing complaints of dog bite injuries, Additional Deputy Commissioner Haripur, Imran Khan Jadoon, issued instructions to the relevant departments to end the serious situation and kill the stray dogs.

Prominent labour leaders Chanzeb Qureshi and Musharraf Hazarvi met the Additional Deputy Commissioner at his office and apprised him about the large number of stray dogs in the suburbs and the serious problems faced by the public in T&T Colony, Railway Road, Darwish Road, Central Jail Area, Housing Colony, Khalaabat Township, Chhapar Road and other urban areas. "This is a very serious problem and the government will not let people suffer in any way," said Khan.
